Choosing a Cheap Web Hosting Service Online
About picking the right cheap web hosting package online and what you should consider.
To change the host can be a long-term intensive and expensive affair. I have personally done this several times and will therefore now come with different advice to what you can do to facilitate this process.
Through most hosting transfers many sites lose visitors and customers because the site is unavailable for several days or weeks, and because there is lack of experience or knowledge met a host switch. Another problem is the loss of important e-mail that can mean disaster for some. Switching of hosting is not something hard and do not need to take a long time, if you know what to do.
The first step in hosting an exchange is to find a new host that will not give you a good reason for a later switch. The following guidelines may help:
1. Make a list of all the features your web page or user needs or will need later.
2. Make a list of hosting companies that offer these features.
3. If possible, avoid long contracts or full prepayment. (This can be difficult at Norwegian hosting company).
4. Ask questions about anything you wonder (if the answers come, this is a bad sign for potential future use and you should even consider a new hosting provider)
The next step is to create a new account with your new hosting company. Last look up all the files and test out the page. Examine all the pages, links and images on the page. In the e-mail account you create all of the previous e-mail accounts on the new so that you avoid the loss of important e-mail. If possible, activate the “collect all mail” feature to receive e-mail to non-existing accounts (which you may have forgotten to make). It is important to remember that e-mail addresses only work after the domain transfer is completed.
The next step is to transfer the domain name to your new host. This can be done in two ways. Hopefully your new hosting provider does this for you automatically. You must then pay again for the domain name. If this does not go, you must change the DNS server details where you registered your domain. You must then obtain the primary and secondary server details from your new hosting provider. Log in to the control panel where you registered the domain and check for DNS. From there you can change the old server details to the new details (the details you got with your new hosting provider.)
These changes in the domain transfer are usually sent by e-mail to you by registrar of this domain. You will then have to confirm the transfer of this e-mail address. Domain transfer can take anywhere from a few days to a week. If the domain is transferred after a week you have most likely given the wrong information (name, address, telephone number).
